The statue of our Lord Maitreya was fully consecrated yesterday after three days of rituals carried out by our Geshe Lama Konchok with the help of 4 other kind members of the Sangha.
The preparatory rituals involved, amongst other things, the placing of the zung and zoksiang, including the shigpa. The shigpa is a wooden pillar made from trees grown on the hills on high altitudes far away from the polluted grounds of lower altitudes and carefully bound with sutras and tied with strings, representing the Eastern direction where the sun rises each day. This has been placed into the core of the statue of Lord Maitreya. Other precious substances placed in the very top of the statue include precious relics of enlightened masters such as Lama Atisha.
We rejoice in the generous donations of the benefactors whose names are recorded at the base of the statue, to whom we dedicate these infinitely positive merits that flow from their virtuous deeds.
The statue, now at the Centre, is ready and fit for veneration, and all the devoted are invited to pay respects, even if virtually.
