Event Description

Maha Tare Buddhist Centre is organising two fire rituals (Jinsek in Tibetan) at 2 Irving Road (Near Tai Seng MRT) on the 16th and 17th of January 2016 from 6pm to 8 pm.

The fire rituals, performed in devotion to Buddha Vajrabhairava(Yamantaka in Tibetan) and wealth gods Vaishravana and Dzambhalaaccording Mahayana Tantric tradition, are intended towards removing all obstacles that impede our spiritual path and practices and obstruct us from attaining spiritual realizations, mental contentment, and physical well-being.

Fire ritual is one of the few efficacious secret Tantric rituals performed by a Tantric master for accomplishment both personal and universal objectives and goals. Involving a series of preparatory rites, the actual fire offerings include meditative visualization, Tantric transformation, Mantra recitation, offering of ritual cakes, burning of medicinal herbs and substances through homa-rites besides other. Prayers, invocations, and offerings are mostly made to one’s spiritual guru Buddha Shakyamuni, meditational deities, the eonic Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dakas and Dakinis, Dharma-protectors, guardian deities, and treasure gods.

In general, the four types of fire rituals are conducted—

  1. Peace ritual for purification of negative Karma;
  2. Proliferation ritual for increase of positive Karma and furthering of physical and mental well-being;
  3. Subduing ritual for protection from and subdual of harmful forces; and
  4. Forceful rituals for eradication and extermination of harmful non-humans forces and evil spirits.

All rituals are conducted through strict observance of Tantric precepts and commitments, genuine admiration for the teachings of emptiness, and simultaneous cultivation of unconditional love and compassion towards all sentient beings including the harmful spirits.

Presided over by Geshe Lama Konchok and together with visiting tantric monks from Guyme Tantric Monastery, the fire ritual on the first night will invoke Buddha Vajrabhairava for eradication of harmful forces associated with death, illness, misfortune, and obstacles.

On the second night, Geshe Lama Konchok and visiting monks will conduct fire ritual on Wealth Gods Vaishravana and Arya Jambhala, for grant of happiness and fortune in the form of good health, prosperity, success, and advancements in all social and spiritual endeavors.

In addition, at the request of few devout Buddhists, Maha Tare Buddhist Centre will also be organising an extensive Buddha Vajrabhairava Jedröl ritual on the 16th of January 2016.

Jedröl ritual, conducted only on rare occasions through formal requests, is observed to ensure supplicants the much-needed protection from harmful curses, spells, and sorcery. The ritual will be presided over by Geshe Lama Konchok, a Buddhist practitioner and Tantric ritualist, through invocation of Buddha Vajrabhairava (Yamantaka in Tibetan), one of the powerful deities for eradication of all forms of harmful and malignant forces. The ritual involves a series of preparatory rites followed by actual invocation of the deity, extending of ritual cakes to meditational deities, offering of pure substances through homa-rites, recitation of mantra to counter curses and spells, meditation on emptiness to diminish the evil power, and cultivation of deep compassion to subdue malevolent sorcerers and spirits.

A forceful and efficacious Tantric ritual, Jedröl is most often employed to dispel or subdue local disturbances, such as the interference and possession by spirits and impairment caused by curses and spells. It requires the Tantric ritualist, the supplicants, and the participants in the rituals to refrain from any negative and vengeful thoughts towards source of the curses, spells, and sorcery. It is believed that the actual dispersion of spells and eradication of spirits is achieved through a combination of powerful Tantric meditative techniques and genuine compassion towards those who cast these out of deep anger and animosity.
