Have you ever felt the wish to express devotion to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and hoped to have an image which you can venerate and offer your respects to, thereby generating immense merits that will assist you both in this and future lives? Have you also, at the same time, faced challenges in setting up an altar at home for this purpose, or in finding time to engage in such practices due to very busy work and family commitments?
The Centre is pleased to advertise a fact known to few, and hope it will go some way to help those in this category.
We were recently able to commission 260 rupas (statues) of various Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. These rupas are gilded in gold and are approximately 4 to 5 inches in height. They have been filled (and sealed) with holy substances and sutras. Anyone who has a wish to express devotion to the Enlightened Ones may provide their names (or those of friends and/or family members) to the Centre, so that individual rupas with unique serial numbers, can be allocated to them. The rupas are kept in the clean and holy environment of the Centre, and prayers are offered twice daily, with regular offerings of fruit, flowers and incense also being carried out on behalf of those to whom the rupas are dedicated.
The Centre currently has rupas of 3 Buddhas and 4 Bodhisattvas that are available for this service. They are: –
- Shakyamuni Buddha (Chi: 佛陀释迦牟尼佛),
- Amitabha Buddha (Chi: 阿弥陀佛),
- Medicine Buddha (Chi: 药师佛),
- Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva (Chenrezig/Guan Yin) (Chi: 四臂观音),
- Manjushri Bodhisattva (Chi: 文殊菩萨),
- Yellow Dzambhala Wealth Deity (Chi: 黄财神) and
- Green Tara (Chi: 绿度母).
Dharma friends may pick whichever Buddha(s) or Bodhisattva(s) they may feel an affinity to. As a general guide, those who wish to excel in the learning of the Dharma may do well to pick Shakyamuni Buddha for the name dedication. Those who wish to dedicate merits to loved ones who have departed so that the departed may be born in the Western Paradise of Dewachen (Chi:西方极乐世界) may wish to choose Amitabha Buddha, and for those who have health issues, Medicine Buddha is as an obvious choice. For those with children who are pursuing their studies, Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is a popular choice. Those with relationship issues have seen Mother Green Tara being particularly effective, and Yellow Dzhambala is propitiated by those who are engaged in business. Finally, everyone knows Chenrezig/ Guan Yin who is the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas, who watches over and protects any and all who call upon Him.
The Rupa Name Dedication is available at an offering of S$288 per year. Those interested are welcome to make an appointment to come to the Centre to select a rupa (whether in consultation with Geshe Lama Konchok or otherwise) for name dedication(s).
